I first read about The Kominas in the Boston Globe a couple of years ago. Bandmates Shahjehan Khan and Basim Usmani came to our former studio for an interview, and we all had a good laugh. Sarcasm guides their music, and it guides their conversation. But like all good rockers, they were a little slow in getting their album out. Their story is great though. Shahjehan Khan came by our new studio last month just before leaving for Lahore where he’s going to hang with Basim until the end of the summer. It should be a creatively fertile chapter in their lives, and I’m curious to hear what their music sounds like when these Muslim metal-heads get home. I’ll try to do a follow-up.
In the meantime, here’s the story that aired on http://theworld.org/images/icons/audio.png today.
